5 Quick Pre-Planning Tips to Make Moving Easy
As soon as you know your move date, schedule time off of work.
The weekend is the most convenient time to move, but if you cram moving into just 2 days, you’ll end of thinking you should have given yourself an extra day or two to pack or unpack to avoid stress and fatigue.
As soon as you know the move date start purging items by selling or donate.
Room by room, go through your items to decide which items you’ll keep and which you’ll get rid of.
Two weeks before the move date find free boxes that are small and sturdy.
Free boxes from liquor stores or big box retailers are a great way to save some cash. Make sure you get sturdy, good quality boxes and avoid grocery store boxes as they may contain pests. You will want more small or medium sized boxes instead of big ones. One person needs to be able to carry each box. If two people need to carry the box, especially up stairs, you lose time.
And make sure to get all of your moving supplies in one trip.
You don’t want to be running back and forth to the store because you ran out of moving supplies. Get everything in one trip to save time to pack and move.
Three weeks before the move date stop buying groceries.
Go through your entire house (freezer, fridge, pantry, bathroom cabinets, and car & cleaning supply storage areas) and consume or give away all perishable, bulky, flammable, heavy items and old half used items. This way your new house will be fresh. You’ll save time and money in the weeks that lead up to moving.
